Moderator

Nisha Botchwey, PhD, began serving as dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in January 2022. 

Previously, Botchwey served as associate dean for academic programs at Georgia Tech Professional Education. In that role she was responsible for developing academic programs, overseeing all academic offerings and curriculum, and leading outreach and student affairs. She played a key role in leading Georgia Tech’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beth Richardson was appointed Consul General of Canada in Minneapolis in August 2023. As Canada's Consul General in the Upper Midwest, Ms. Richardson works with a team of 17 Consulate staff to strengthen trade and economic ties; reinforce our security alliances; enhance political, academic and cultural links; and assist Canadians visiting or living in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

 

Beth Richardson joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (Global Affairs Canada) in 1996, where she has worked in in the Eastern Europe and Eurasia Division, on the Afghanistan Task Force and at the Canadian International Development Agency. Her assignments abroad include Seoul, London, Moscow, Miami and Vilnius, Lithuania.

Dr. Mary T. Curtin, a Minnesota native, served for ten years as Diplomat-in-Residence and Chair of the Global Policy Area at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, coming to that position after a twenty-five year career as a Department of State Foreign Service Officer.  As Diplomat-in-Residence and member of the graduate faculty, she taught courses in foreign policy and diplomacy and served as Chair of the Global Policy Area. She also led the process of creating the interdisciplinary Master of Human Rights degree program.

 

During her Foreign Service Career, Dr. Curtin served at the U.S. Mission to the EU in Brussels; as Political Counselor in Warsaw, Poland; and at missions in Tunisia, Mali, and Chile, as well as in Washington, D.C. She has expertise in issues including Middle East policy; European affairs, including the EU and NATO; human rights and democratization, and non-proliferation.

Julee Muro de Gerome has been a global citizen at heart since she can remember. At an early age she held an interest in language and culture which led here to a year living in Indonesia as a high school exchange student. While raising her 3 children she achieved certification as a clinical hypnotherapist and earned a bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language (ASL) while volunteering weekly to teach English through ASL to Deaf individuals who recently immigrated to the Twin Cities. After her children had left the nest, Julee served as a Spanish Literacy Promoter with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic for where she met her current spouse. Back home in Minnesota since 2018, she is a Senior Recruiter with Peace Corps and has co-authored a bestselling book, earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership, and serves as a volunteer mentor for C.L.U.E.S. (Comunidades Latinas Unidos en Servicio).
